This is a genuine Monkey Pod tray; made from trees found in tropical areas, such as The Philippines or South Pacific islands, often found in Hawaii.
The leaf tray has Sorenson, Hawaii, monkey pod wood and another word I can’t quite read, carved onto the bottom. Monkey Pod Long Leaf Shaped Long Pu-Pu Platter Dish with Pour Spout Hand Carved Signed by Sorensen Master Woodworker 1961. Hand carved by Christian Martinus "Chris" Sorensen [b.1917 – d.1996], a respected prolific Mid-century Hawaiian woodworker. Comps listed for over $100 for single leaf tray.
Great for a side serving dish, nuts or candies. This could also be used as a catch all in an office, bedroom or den. Or simply displayed alone as it beautiful. Offered in very good condition with minimal signs of vintage age. The Sorenson tray measures 17 x 4 1/2 x 1. Other trays listed separately. Please see photos for any condition concerns.
