Peperomia watermelon is a trendy member of the Piperaceae family. This plant is native to northern South America (Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, and Venezuela). Watermelon Peperomia has unique, stunning green and silver foliage with a watermelon-like pattern, hence the name! This plant is a slow grower. Watermelon Peperomia usually grows to around 8 to 12 inches in both height and width, making it a perfect compact plant for well-lit table tops and bright, small spaces. Peperomia Watermelon produces unscented, green spikes (stems) that bear red, small flowers. These flower spikes can be removed so your plant can focus its energy on developing bushier foliage. This plant, as well as other Peperomia species, can purify the indoor air and reduces common airborne toxins. Peperomia Watermelon prefers medium to bright, indirect light, and it does not grow well in low light conditions. This plant should be protected from intense, direct sunlight. It is important not to overwater this plant to prevent root rot. Check the soil weekly and only water when the soil is dry to the touch. Drain well after each watering. Watermelon Peperomia grows well in most houseplant potting soils, as long as the soil is well-draining yet can hold some moisture. It is recommended that you add some perlite to your general houseplant potting soil to increase drainage and aeration. Watermelon Peperomia loves warm, humid environment and can thrive in normal room temperatures (between 65Β°F-80Β°F) and humidity (40-50%). You can mist your plant and use a humidifier when the environment is too dry (humidity level falls below 40%). This plant should be fertilized once during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted houseplant fertilizer. USDA Zone 10-12.
