- 4% or 15%? The percentage of pollen you choose depends on the needs of your hives and your desired rate of brood buildup. In spring, a 15% ratio encourages rapid buildup in preparation for upcoming honey flow. If you begin feeding early, a 4% ratio suffices until natural pollen becomes available. Pollen is the best source of protein for bees, so where possible, we recommend the 15% ratio.
